Viva Mexico

Regular readers know that one of the things we miss most about the US is ethnic food.

I found taco seasoning packets in Vienna.

I understand that actual Mexicans don't necessarily use spice packets, but for me that's just about the real thing. We just finished our first "taco" dinner, Serbian style. We have no tortillas or taco shells, so we used slightly oversized melba toast-like crackers. It worked, and I am happy.

Shout out to the Pantić Market up the street, as well. They're the Serbian version of a convenience store: family owned and operated, with seasonally varying produce, several kinds of rakija, bad cologne, and a full-service meat counter, packed into a space roughly the size of the boardroom table on The Apprentice. They supplied, on ten minutes' notice, the ground meat, tomato, onion, and hot pepper for tonight's culinary adventure.
